Frequently Asked Questions

What is a brand book?

A brand book is a document that sets specific guidelines for perpetuating brand identity in all external and internal communications. Combining the elements of branding and visual identity, it becomes a guide that describes the image of the brand, its mission, vision, raison d'être, while pointing out its visual representations - through logos, icons, color palettes, etc.

Every successful brand book should include, as a rule:

  • Brand name
  • Outline of the brand story, ethos, and purpose/mission
  • Brand logo, its variations
  • Icons
  • Color scheme
  • Fonts, sizes, and style variations
  • Images that reflect the brand and give examples as to what images can be used in the marketing strategy of the brand.
  • Brand’s communication style.

Why do I need a brand book?

You can build brand books to present your logos, fonts, and creative concepts to the client in a professional way. Offering an explanation for the visual improves designers’ reputation, demonstrates professionalism, and has multiple benefits for their clients. The companies you are working with will have clear guidelines of use for your logo that can be used in marketing, communication, PR - anywhere. Gingersauce builds impressive brand books, like the ones of famous brands, and makes them accessible for personal and SMB use.

Are brand book and brand guidelines the same or are there any differences?

Allow us to answer it with a quote:

"A brand book is the physical manifestation of the living, breathing concept that is your brand. Without a guiding document, the Brand can spin out into an inconsistent set of representations. In an attempt to slow that process, Marketing Departments often develop Brand usage guidelines.

These guiding documents have a lot of names: Brand Book, Brand Guidelines, Brand Bible, Identity Guidelines, etc, etc, etc. But whatever you call it, the Brand Book helps to define the standard elements of the Brand identity, in an attempt to limit the inconsistency that would otherwise develop as the Brand is implemented and actively used." - Tisha Oehmen.

How much does it cost?

We have four pricing packages, including a monthly subscription for only 9$ if you need multiple brand books, or a one-book creation with personal assistance for $129 (which includes logo conversion, assistance with color choices, fonts, etc).

We really focused on having Gingersauce as accessible and affordable as possible, hence the minimal prices. You can also check the Gingersauce’s functionality for free in a view-only package.

You will most definitely find the one that suits your needs best. If not - contact us for a custom-made package.

For more information on our prices, please visit our pricing page.

What’s the difference between the free package and the paid ones?

Here are some of the main differences:
If using the free package you cannot download a brand book, add external editors, or share it with others. We have a few paid packages, with their own perks, starting from only $9 a month - make sure to visit a pricings page to check them out: https://gingersauce.co/pricing

Will your 129 USD package allow me to make multiple brand books? One at a time if not altogether?

The package you’re referring to is a one-purchase, allowing you to create only 1 brand book at a time. If you delete the already created one, you’ll be able to create another one. The idea is to have 1 brand book in your dashboard. (I am hiding the delete option so no deleting, but they will be able to edit and create in fact everytime a different brand as you said)

Why do I need a logo in an SVG format?

We are very hung up on providing you the most professional-looking result. That is why we are working with this format only (for now at least).

It’s a standard vector format allowing our system to process your logo and make all the needed modifications. Why vector? It allows us to prepare variations of your logo without it losing its quality.

If you have issues converting your logo to the SVG format, make sure to hit us up and we’ll help you!

I have an issue with the logo I uploaded, what do I do?

We’re sorry to hear that 🙁 Here are the most frequent issues we noticed:

  1. The .SVG file of logo/icon is not entirely vector format (it shouldn’t be reformatted from .PNG or any other raster type).
  2. The logo has a line of text: they need to be converted to shapes.

If this is not the case, do not hesitate to contact us, we will gladly offer you our assistance.

I faced a problem while I was creating a brand book. What should I do?

If for any reason you cannot generate a brand book, please go back to the brand books page, re-edit the wizard and try to generate it again — "restart the system", it helps in 80% of cases.

Also, see if the following issues are not the reason you’re having problems with the brand book creation:

  1. The .SVG file of logo/icon is not entirely vector format (it shouldn’t be reformatted from .PNG or any other raster type).
  2. There are Non-Latin characters and symbols in the text areas.
  3. The logo has a line of text: they need to be converted to shapes.

If that doesn't help, contact us, describe what happened, leave your username and an email address. We’ll check what caused the issue and will get back to you shortly.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

I have finished the creation of a brand book but the PDF file is nowhere to be found/So I finished adding all the info. Can't see a brand book, just this placeholder factory. What do I do?

Go to app.gingersauce.co/my and click on the brand book thumbnail. If it opens the wizard it means the process wasn’t completed, and you need to try to regenerate the book. If it opens the complete brand book - congrats! It did it.

Is there any way of getting this into Adobe Indesign?

Unfortunately, no. However there is a possibility to open the closed PDF file in Illustrator one page at a time to re-edit and save. Messy workaround but maybe in the future we will have this option.

How do I delete an account?

If you, for any reason, decide to delete your Gingersauce account, please contact our support email: support@gingersauce.co, and we will help you.

We’re sorry to see you go, tho 🙁
